Obituary for Klingler

Merrill Richard Klingler, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, October 5, 1999, of multiple myeloma. He is survived by his wife, Alice Ann Klingler of the family home; sons, Richard Scott Klingler of Albuquerque and Daniel Ross Klingler and wife, Elizabeth Hicks Klingler of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Aubry Adair Klingler of Austin, TX; brother, C. Gene Klingler and wife, Mary of Worland, WY; sister, Miriam Evans and husband, Bill of Amarillo, TX; and five nieces and nephews. Merrill was born March 30, 1930 in Nicholasville, KY, the son of the Rev. David Roosevelt Klingler and Jennie Dorothy (Huyett) Klingler. He attended schools in Millville, Brockport, and Holly, NY, and he graduated from high school in Derrick City, PA. After graduating from Penn State College in 1953 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he went to work for DuPont in North Augusta, SC from June 1953 to March 1955. He joined the Navy, attending Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI as a member of Class 21. He was sent to Albuquerque and taught nuclear weapons orientation classed at Sandia Base from July 1955 to July 1958. He returned to DuPont, but stayed only until April 1959, until he happily returned to Albuquerque with a job for the Naval Nuclear Ordnance Evaluation Unit, which later was renamed the Naval Weapons Evaluation Facility. He worked as a general engineer, working in nuclear safety. He continued at NWEF until his retirement on December 31, 1990. In September 1961, Merrill had a blind date with Alice An Berry and on October 10th, he proposed. They married a few months later, on December 19, 1961, and they enjoyed 38 years of marriage. Memorial services were held Friday, October 8, 1999 at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. NE, with Rev. Allen McCallum and Rev. Leonard Kramer officiating.
