Obituary for Sandoval

Josephine Elenora Sandoval, born March 14, 1925 in Raton, New Mexico, departed us on November 20, 1999, at the age of 74 to continue her life with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her father, Octaviano Ulibarri; and her mother, Lucy Trujillo-Grier. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Reuben Sandoval; daughter, Yvonne Strascina and husband, Jak; son, Gary Sandoval and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Ian and Meghan Strascina, Mackenzie and David Jason Sandoval, and Wendy Jo Zottneck; great-granddaughter, Baleigh Nicole and great-grandson, Johnathan. She is also survived by brothers, Abe Ulibarri and wife, Cindy, and Ervin Ulibarri and wife, Sharon; sisters, Viola Schammell and husband, Al, and Dolores (Dolly) Welshiemer and husband, Bob; and step-mother, Lita Ulibarri. She leaves behind 36 nieces and nephews, and will be missed by her many friends at the Grand Court Retirement Community. She was a member of Church of the Risen Savior. She retired from civil service with over 20 years of service. She had worked at Los Alamos during the war and at Kirtland AFB. Upon Mrs. Sandoval's retirement, she was devoted to many ministries such as Activities Director for Queen of Heaven prayer group. She also played guitar and sang in several church choirs. She was active in Intercessory Prayer Line and served as a Eucharistic Minister to the hospital patients and to the home-bound. Mrs. Sandoval's hobbies included her love of music coupled with her love of many arts and crafts. A Rosary will be recited this evening, 7:00p.m., at Sandia Funeral Care. Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, at Church of the Risen Savior, with Rev. Paul Baca as Celebrant.
