Obituary for Watson

Severn H."Bud" Watson,"the Tile Maker", a resident of the Pojoaque valley area for 35 years, died Wednesday, November 17, 1999, after a lengthy battle with emphysema. Watson was born October 13, 1933 in Mineral Wells, Texas, a third generation tile maker. He founded Tiles de Santa Fe, in Cuyamungue in 1971. He was highly regarded for his knowledge and expertise and in all areas of the tile business. He continued, until his death, to be a constant resource of inspiration for his family and a continuing source of knowledge for community members involved in the making and setting of ceramic and clay tile, as well as firing and glazing. He loved working with his hands and even after his retirement he continued to be known and respected for his hand crafted artistic products. After his retirement, Watson was passionate about traveling and gardening until his illness intervened. His wife, Gene Watson, of 48 years, survives him along with their seven children; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Watson is survived by his sister, Pollye Christian of Plainview, TX; and brother, Bill Watson of Dallas, TX; of his children, Richard of Santa Fe with daughter, Shae, John of Roswell, his daughter, Claudia of Santa Fe, Stefan and wife, Eileen, live in Albuquerque with children, Ethan, Tomas and Ana, Dixie and husband, Lloyd Ortiz, and son, Steven of El Rancho, Michael and wife, Kay of Alpine, CA, Mary Watson, her fiance, Gilbert Maestas, and daughter, Hannah of El Gauche, Rachel Watson, husband, Rick Brenner, and children, Jacob, Zac and Juliana of Santa Fe; granddaughter, Cherie, husband, Jesse Rios, and children, Robert and Catalina of El Rancho; his great-grandson, Jesus Miguel Rios, preceded him in death; granddaughter, Angela, her husband, Juan Marrufo of Arroyo Seco; granddaughters, Jessica and Valerie Lujan of Jaconita. Cremation has taken place. Rosary on Sunday, November 21, 7:00 p.m., at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe del Valle de Pojoaque, 15 Country Road 84J.
