Dr. Theodore Joshua Goldbloom, 66, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 2, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shelley Goldbloom (Sperling); daughters, Deborah Goldbloom, Ingrid Goldbloom-Bloch, Stefanie Goldbloom; son-in-law, Dr. William Goldbloom-Bloch; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Charles Richlen; and numerous other beloved relatives, friends and his cherished pets. Josh (a.k.a. Teddy) was born January 5, 1933 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada to the late Tevye and Anne Goldbloom (Stark). After graduating from the University of British Columbia Medical School in 1957, he completed his advanced medical training at Duke University Medical School prior to moving with his family to Albuquerque, where they lived for many years before moving to La Crosse, Wisconsin and most recently Corbin, Kentucky, where Josh continued his ongoing distinguished and compassionate medical practice in Psychiatry. His zest for life was not hampered by childhood polio or living with cancer for most of his adult life and he was an inspiration for those who knew him. He was an avid swimmer, outdoorsman and animal lover who loved backpacking, fishing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. He was a skilled craftsman, woodworker, photographer and artist who took great pleasure working with his hands. His ability to find joy in simplicity, his wonderful wit and his kind and loving heart touched numerous people and he will be greatly missed. The family will received friends at the Corbin Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter or charity of your choice.
