Obituary for Martinez

Ernesto Martinez, 77, beloved brother and uncle, passed away early Sunday, August 22, 1999. He was born in Manzano, NM, to the late Sylvester and Lupita Martinez; he resided at 1013 Forrester NW, and was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ernesto was a proud Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Army; he was a life member of the American Legion Post 72. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Ismael, Jose, Demecio and Mateo. He is survived by three sisters, Tina Sandoval of Tucson, AZ, Frances Martinez of the family home and Ursula Cid of Los Angeles, CA. Also surviving are one nephew, Jose Ismael Martinez of Albuquerque; three nieces, Elena Sandoval, Viola Garcia and husband, Armando of Tucson, AZ, Cathy Martinez of Albuquerque; great-niece, Odelia Christina Garcia; two great-nephews, Gabriel Sylvester Garcia of Tucson, AZ, Charles Martinez of Albuquerque; several cousins and a host of friends who cared for him dearly. Rosaries were recited Wednesday and Thursday in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jose Ismael Martinez, Charles Martinez, Gabriel Sylvester Garcia, Armando Garcia, Eddie Sanchez, Seferino Romero and Anselmo Bow. Honorary bearers will be Flavio Martinez, George Romero, Rick Miera and Arturo Gonzales. Military Honors will be accorded by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter III. Funeral services are in the care and direction of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW.
