Obituary for Hartwig

Victor E. Hartwig, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1997, died Thursday, September 30, 1999. He was born January 6, 1922 in Houston, Texas, and graduated from the University of Houston in 1948 with a degree in Geology. He served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps for four years and flew in the C.B.I. theater, completing 71 missions. In 1948, he went to work for Shell Oil Company, retiring in 1984 after 36 years. In 1948, he married Ella Mikeska, who preceded him in death in 1990. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Merlyn Hart and her husband, Wesley Hart. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janet Hartwig of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Robert and Katherine Hartwig; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Winfred Chamberlain of Texas City, TX; brother and sister-in-law, William and Leah Hartwig of Katy, TX; sisters-in-law, Anne Hamusek and Mary Hosek; numerous nieces and nephews; and by a dear friend and companion, Jean Canfield. Mr. Hartwig was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 4, at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston with internment at Brookside Memorial Park. Officiating was the Rev. Clark Chamberlain, a nephew of Mr. Hartwig. Memorials may be sent to the Pagets Disease Foundation, 120 Wall Street, Suite 1602, New York, NY 10005-4001.
