Obituary for Fortner

Angel Marie Fortner died October 1 of a heart ailment. A friend and protector of animals, both domestic and wild, Angel was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on March 3, 1964. A resident of Albuquerque since 1992, Angel was a home healthcare worker. Primarily, however, she was a board member of Wildlife Rescue, Inc. of New Mexico and principal administrator of that organization, serving as fundraiser, educator and volunteer coordinator. Angel is survived by her Godfather, Tony DuPre and his family; mother, Beverly Gipson; sisters, Tammy Bennett, Teresa Fortner, and Dawn Riggle; brothers, Erin and Eric Ziegert; and aunts, Patricia Smart and Vickie Gipson; and uncle, William Gipson. She is also survived by her caregiver and roommate, Kasha Gordon, as well as many friends in New Mexico's animal care community who mourn the loss of Angel's generous and caring spirit. A Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7, at the Rio Grande Nature Center, 2901 Candelaria NW.
