Obituary for Phalen

Hazel Welch Phalen, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Phalen; parents, Sumner and Minnie Reed; sister, Pauline Christensen. She is survived by her two daughters, TexAnn Maestas and husband, Alex of Albuquerque, Carmaleta Jacques and husband, Raymond of Albuquerque; one son, Jack Cantrell of Bloomfield, NM; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one nephew, James Pruett of Oregon; and a special friend, Stella. She was a member of Presbyterian Church and a resident of Albuquerque for 22 years. A special thanks to the staff at Valle Norte, and especially Shirley Jones who always took time from their busy schedule to stop and give her a hug or a kiss on the cheek and say"Hi, Hazel, how are you today?" We loved our mother and we love you for giving her such good care. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 24, 1999, at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 1999, at Palm Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, with Larry Pierson officiating. Pallbearers are Alexander Maestas, William Maestas, David Maestas, John Jacques, Anthony Cantrell, Shawn Cantrell, Kelly Heth, Edward Salas. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Lopez, Patrick Irwin. Interment will follow in Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Dr. NE. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
