Obituary for Neidigk

Oscar Victor Neidigk, 80, a devoted husband and father, fell asleep in Christ, Sunday, August 8, 1999. He was born at a sawmill in Magnolia, TX, August 4, 1919. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; daughter, Suzanne Martin and husband, Michael; and sons, Donald and wife, Kathryn, David and wife, Sandra, Richard and wife, Brenda, all of the Albuquerque area; grandchildren, Rebecca and Shannon Martin of Portland, OR, Pamela Christy of San Antonio, TX, Laura Geiger of Albuquerque, Matthew Neidigk of Alamogordo, NM and Nathan and Stephen Neidigk of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Zachariah Christy and Paul and Matthew Geiger; and sister, Hazel Huber and husband, Carl of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by daughter, Carol Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Erika Geiger. Victor served his country in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting as an apprentice seaman in 1939 and being discharged in 1946 as a warrant officer. He was assigned to the Naval Hospital at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack and later was stationed in England. He participated in several LST landings at Normandy during the D-Day invasion of France. He was on a ship preparing to invade Japan when the war ended. A former resident of Hobbs, NM, Victor was employed by Amerada Hess and later Mobile Oil from which he retired in 1983. His Christian faith was important to Victor. He was a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, treasurer, Bible class teacher, and occasional preacher. A favorite Bible verse was Romans 1:16,"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." At Victor's request memorial gifts may be sent to Faith in Christ Lutheran Church and designated for seminary scholarship assistance. A private committal service was held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 12, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, 1750 Faith Ct. NE, with Rev. Roger Wohletz officiating.
