Obituary for Willett

John Russell Willett passed away quietly August 1, 1999 at his home in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bertha Grotta Willett. He is also survived by nieces, Ann Haworth, Ridgeland, MS, Carol Jean Morel, New Orleans, LA, Sandra Bookout, Eckert, CO; nephews, Tom Wayne Willett, Unionville, IN, Leonard Grotta, Palm Springs, CA and Myron Grotta, Lawrence, KS; Godson, Allan Max of Albuquerque; and his sister, Andrea Max-Hopkins, Atlanta, GA. Mr. Willett served in the US Army Signal Corps during WWII, much of the time in China. A geologist, who graduated from the University of NM, worked with Geophysical Exploration Company in Venezuela and with the US Geological survey in NM, followed by self-employment until his retirement. He was born in Tulia, TX to Rev. Thomas Calvin Willett and Mary Wyche Davis. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Albuquerque. No formal services are planned. A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were made by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200. .DMP
