Obituary for Waters

Gene Waters, 74, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past nine years, passed away on Friday, January 1, 1999. Gene was born January 3, 1924, the son of Harvey and Rosie Lee Smith Waters in Mt. Vernon, Texas. He had been an electrician with the Greenbelt Electric Company in Wellington, Texas for 30 years and with the Roosevelt County Electric Company in Portales, New Mexico for 13 years before retiring. He was married to Jewel Miller on September 18, 1943 in Shamrock, Texas. Gene and Jewel had celebrated 55 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Gene is survived by his wife, Jewel of Rio Rancho; children, Gary D. Waters and wife, Tommie of Abiline, TX, Danny Joel Waters and wife, Beverly of Clovis, NM, and Ronny Dale Waters and wife, Brenda of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 5, 1999 in Vista Verde Memorial Park with Pastor Jeff Carr of the Mesa Baptist Temple officiating. It has been suggested that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Gene's memory. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho. .DMP
