Obituary for Cordova

Nick Abod Cordova Sr., 67, a lifelong resident of Jarales, passed away on June 6, 1999 as a result of an auto accident. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Nick was a retired rancher, farmer, and was very well known throughout Valencia and surrounding counties. He previously worked for his father at the Jarales Roller Mills and in Albuquerque, ACF (American Car Foundry) and Whitfield Transportation. From 1974 to 1976 Nick and Sally Cordova were Mayordomos of San Francisco Xavier Mission in Jarales. Through their efforts $24,000 was collected for the new building and Nick sought out friends, relatives and neighbors to do labor on the building. With all the donated labor of love for their mission, $1,000 was left over from purchasing all the materials. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Viviana Sanchez Cordova; brother, Michael Dean Cordova in 1995; his grandparents, Jose Dolores and Josefa Lopez Cordova; great-grandparents, Don Fransico and Francisquita Ulibarri Cordova of Tome, and from prominent Sanchez family, early Spanish settlers of Jarales. Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Cordova; his loving children, Susan Cordova, Sharon Harrell and her husband, Tom, Nick Cordova Jr., Shirley Baca and her husband, Anthony, Geraldine Cordova, Mary Cordova, Jeanette Romero and her husband, Russell, Richard Cordova and his wife, Wendy. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Dawn Lee (Barks) Baca, Andrea Baca, Jessica Baca, Joshua Nick Cordova, Christopher Gutierrez, Crystal, Justin, and Jordan Cordova, Matthew Harrell, Rebecca and Elena Cordova; and one great-grandson, Jacob Bryan Baca. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Angie Clark, Frank and his wife, Lila, Raoul and his wife, Dolores, Ruth C. Padilla and her husband, Sosimo, Edna Otero and her husband, Avilio, Arthur Jr., David and his wife, Angelina, Jose (J.D.) and his wife, Vivian, Virginia Gomez and her husband, Alfonso; sisters-in-law, Tommy, Gloria, and Diane Cordova. His many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive Nick. Rosary will be held on Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. also at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons, Nick Cordova Jr. and Richard Cordova, his grandsons, Joshua Nick Cordova and Christopher Gutierrez, son-in-law, Russell Romero, and nephew, Casey Cordova.
