Obituary for Tapia

William"Bill" L. Tapia, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his sons, Adrian R. Tapia and Eric L. Tapia; mother, Evangeline M. Tapia; father, William J. Tapia; brother, Louie H. Tapia and wife, Patricia; sister, Marcia C. Tapia, all of Albuquerque; nieces, Madonna T. Tapia, Francisca"KiKa" E. Tapia; and nephew, Luis R. Tapia. Mr. Tapia was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Jean Tapia. He was born in Las Vegas, NM in 1949 and he graduated from Del Norte High School, in Albuquerque, in 1967. Mr. Tapia attended the University of New Mexico where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education. He taught physical education and coached football, wrestling, and baseball at Polk Middle School, Highland High School, and Harrison Middle School. Mr. Tapia retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1997. He enjoyed fishing and attending high school football and basketball games. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was also a member of the New Mexico Athletic Association. He loved working with youth, coaching, and teaching them. He was a loving father, son, brother and uncle. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 7, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Las Vegas, NM. Pallbearers will be Madonna T. Tapia, Francisca"KiKa" Tapia, Luis R. Tapia, Mike Almanzar Jr., and Edward Vigil. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Sunday, 6:00 p.m. until Rosary.
