Joan Reed, 62, a resident of Moriarty since 1973, died Saturday, July 24, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Robert"Bob" Reed of the family home in Moriarty; son, John Reed and wife, Ruth of Lillian, TX; daughter, Susan Kirkbride and husband, Carl of Moriarty; son, James"Andy" Reed of Moriarty; grandchildren, Carl"Arty" Kirkbride, Christopher Kirkbride, Jason Kirkbride, Shawn Kirkbride, Angelica Kirkbride and Christopher Gafford; mother, Gladys Benton of Aiken, SC; sisters, Gladys"Junny" Gibbons and husband, James"Jimmy" of Aiken, SC and Virginia"Dink" Mock and husband, Lee of Windsor, SC; and brother, Douglas Benton and wife, Caroline of John's Island, SC. Joan was preceded in death by her father, Rosco Benton; and son, Ralph Reed. Mrs. Reed was born in Charleston, SC on April 10, 1937. She married Robert E. Reed in 1954. Joan accompanied her husband in his many travels in the United States Air Force until his retirement in 1973 in Marysville, CA. They then moved to Moriarty. She loved history and they enjoyed traveling together and visiting amusement parks. Joan was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and daughter, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Services will be held Wednesday, July 28, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas blvd. NE, with Reverend Gregg Higgins officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Reed, Andy Reed, Carl Kirkbride, Arty Kirkbride, Christopher Kirkbride, and Jason Kirkbride. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Tuesday, July 27, 1999, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of NM, 5301 Central NE, Suite 203, 87108.
