Obituary for Smith

Shirley Jean Smith, 68, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999, at her home after a short battle with lung cancer. Shirley was born May 5, 1931 in Jones, OK to Thomas and Lucille Blaney. Shirley is survived by her brother, Richard Blaney and wife, Judy of Albuquerque; her sister, Sandra Norlander and husband, John of Montrose, CO; her husband, James Smith; her seven children, son, Herbert R. Smith and wife, Dee of Albuquerque, son, Ronald W. Smith and wife, Sherry of Riverton, KS, son, Thomas J. McKenzie of Albuquerque, daughter, Judith J. Bjorkman and husband, Tye of Edgewood, daughter, Rachel S. Smith of Albuquerque, son, Michael Tessman and wife, Melinda of Grapton, ND and daughter, Jennifer K. Gomez and husband, Ronald of Albuquerque. Also 29 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous friends she called family. Family and friends will best remember Shirley as the Bakery Hostess and"Cookie Lady" at Albertson's Grocery Store where she worked for 21 years. Shirley touched many lives and quickly became friends with everyone she met. Mom could always be recognized by her love for the color pink and flowers in her hair. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 1999, at First Spanish Baptist Church, 2804 Bel Air NE, in Albuquerque. Flowers may be sent to Shirley's home at 9101 Gutierrez NE, in Albuquerque, or in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her name. Cremation arrangements were provided by Metropolitan Direct Burial and Cremation Center, Inc., 601 Mountain Rd. NW, Albuquerque, 766-9400.
