Obituary for Buzzard

Dan B. Buzzard, age 78, died in his home in Clovis, NM on March 12, 1999. Mr. Buzzard was born on June 7, 1920 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Nelson and Myrtle Black Buzzard. Mr. Buzzard received a LLB Degree in highest Honors from University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. He came to Clovis in March 1951 and opened his own law office in 1953. He was a WWII Veteran and a member of the St. James Episcopal Church, past Commander of VFW Post 3015, American Legion Post 25, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Clovis-Portales Lodge 1244, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He married Betty Hunter on July 2, 1938, in Pampa, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1982. Dan then married Eleanor Sawyer Ferguson on March 30, 1982. Survivors are his wife, Eleanor, of the family home; three daughters and their husbands, Dana and James Burgett of Yorktown, Virginia, Paige and Ronnie Smith of Clovis and Jill and Mike McCoy of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, K.C. Smith and Hannah Smith of Clovis, Scott and wife, Cynthia Burgett of Richmond, VA, and Bradford and wife, Mary Burgett of Smithfield, VA; six great-grandchildren: Sarah Burgett, Mathew Burgett, Jacob Burgett, Delancy Burgett, Joshua Burgett and Bailey Smith; one brother, Mark Buzzard of Pampa, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and two brothers, Buck and Ross Buzzard. Graveside services will be on Monday March 15th at 2:00 p.m. at the Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, with Father John Rollinson and Dr. Herbert Bergstom officiating. Mr. Buzzard's daughters suggest memorial to: Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice-Home Health Care, High Plains Hospital Auxilliary where Mr. Buzzard's wife, Betty, served as president, American Heart Association, Clovis-Carver Public Library, Curry County Law Library, any scholarship program which will help educate children or young adults, ENMU Symphony or Center State Theater Group or simply plant a fruit tree in your own back yard, Daddy would love that.
