Obituary for Northcutt

Gerald Dean Northcutt, born to Eppy Lotsy and Myrl Dean Howsmon Northcutt February 6, 1911 in Exeter, Missouri. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School in 1931 and Missouri State College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He taught school for 11 years in New Mexico, his first year was at Atarque, NM, which no longer exists. He was principal of Santa Rosa High School when he accepted a position at Lincoln Junior High School in Albuquerque. It was at that time he decided to achieve his Doctor Degree in Dentistry. He graduated from Baylor University, College of Dentistry with top honors in 1947 achieving the highest grades in his class all four years. He practiced in Albuquerque from 1949 to 1973 and was the first Dentist in New Mexico to practice Oral Implantology. He was a member and Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Past President of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, honorary Dental Fraternity and served as a Captain in the United States Army for two years he belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Temple Lodge No. 6, Albuquerque. He was associated with Presbyterian, St. Joseph, Baatan and the University of New Mexico hospitals. He was president of Heights Lions Breakfast Club in 1956, state president of New Mexico Square Dance Association and was nominated to the New Mexico Square Dance Hall of Fame. He was a strong supporter of the University of New Mexico Lobos, both Football and Basketball programs Dr. Northcutt is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Budlong Northcutt; his daughter, Joetta Northcutt McKeefer and husband, Jon of Dallas, Texas; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Blanche Northcutt Laswell and her husband, C. William; two nieces and five nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Kenneth (Crick), Alvin (Doby); his sister, Ruth Northcutt Gant and his son-in-law, Mitchell Miller. Dr. Northcutt will always be remembered for his generosity, caring spirit and his never ending desire to help people. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. The family requests that instead of flowers, memorials be sent to the Boys and Girls Ranch or the charity of their choice. Memorial services will be Sunday, February 14 at 3 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church 9315 Candelaria Rd. N.E. Albuquerque with Dr. John H. Cushman officiating. Cremation by Sunrise Services has taken place.
