Obituary for Williams

Robert Lee (Bobby) Williams, 43, a resident of Albuquerque and Gallup, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 1999. Robert was a member of Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a Steward, Trustee, Class Leader, Usher, Chief Financial Officer of the Stewardship and Finance Commission past president of the Hospitality club, first vice president of the Lay Organization, and a member of the Chancel Choir. Robert graduated from Gallup High School in 1973 where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Drum Major of the school marching band. He was past president of the Gallup Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1973-1977. After graduating from Cosmetology school, Robert taught at Hollywood Beauty School and became a member of the New Mexico State Cosmetology Board. He was a volunteer who enthusiastically volunteered for numerous organizations such as Pennies for the Homeless, NAACP, Sickle Cell Council of New Mexico, National Council of Negro Women, and served as a past officer of the New Mexico Young Democrats of Albuquerque. He was a well known New Mexico businessman who touched many lives and lived life to its fullest. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Williams Jr.; his nephew, Lawrence Williams IV; his paternal grandmother, Emma Williams; and his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Lucia Portley. He is survived by his mother, Arvella Williams; two sisters, Emma J. Williams and Florence Deborah Williams; one brother, Lawrence (Sonny) Williams III; two nieces, Tinikia LaDawn Williams and Marisa Manning. Robert is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and a host of friends. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 7920 Claremont NE, the corner of Texas and Claremont NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will be in Gallup, NM, Thursday, February 11, 1999 at 9:00 a.m. Direct Services, 2919 4th NW, 343-8008.
