Obituary for Nahlovsky

Gretchen Eula Nahlovsky, 92, a longtime Fort Sumner resident, died Monday, February 8, 1999 in the De Baca General Hospital following an illness. Mr. Nahlovsky was born November 8, 1906 in Mindora, Wisconsin to the home of James and Nellie (McConnell) McDonald. She was reared and attended school at Mindora. She later attended nursing school and worked for many years at a Veterans Administration Hospital. She later worked until her retirement as a nurse in a doctor's office. She married Frank Nahlovsky on January 20, 1926. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1969. Gretchen was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Military Order of Purple Heart, she was active with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees where she served as past president. She was also a member of the Fort Sumner Woman Club, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary President, Extension Club, Merry Homemakers, and various other clubs. She loved to travel. Gretchen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Duane Nahlovsky in 1987; three brothers, Glen McDonald, Hugh McDonald, Lamont McDonald; three sisters, Fae Samuelson, Phyllis Stevens, and Bonnie Valvo. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Fran Nahlovsky of Fort Sumner; two grandsons, Keith Nahlovsky and wife, Kathy of San Diego, CA and Kim Nahlovsky of San Francisco, CA; a granddaughter, Kay and husband, David Stout of Edgewood. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, along with one sister, Mary Vogel and husband, Lyle of Washington. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 1999 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, Rev. Monty Leavell, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The family prefers memorials to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association in memory of Gretchen.
