Obituary for Buchanan

John M."Buzz" Buchanan, passed away on Monday, February 8, 1999. Reared in Tacoma, WA (1933-1945), Sutherlin, OR (1945-1952), and White Sulphur Springs, MT (1952-1965), he was with his father in the lumber business a number of years. The family business moved to Colorado in 1965, and he lived in Del Norte until 1971, when he moved to Albuquerque. He belonged to Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, taking an active part, being on the Board of Deacons a number of years. For several years, he took part in the Last Super Tablcau at that church. He was a Past Noble Grand of Mesa Lodge #27, Past Grand Patriarch, Grand Encampment of New Mexico, Major (Ret.) Canton #1, New Mexico, and Mountainview Rebekah Lodge #36, I.O.O.F. He was involved with the New Mexico Repetory Theater, and a number of other performing arts groups, in a volunteer capacity. Also, he was a member of TOPS and A.A. for several years. Buzz was interested in environmental causes, and helped many throughout his life, among them Greenpeace, International Fund for Animal Welfare, National Wildlife Federation, and World Wildlife Fund. memorial services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah NE, with Pastor G. Duncan Miller officiating. Interment will take place in Old Tacoma Cemetery, Tacoma, WA. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Baker, Marc Colvin, Bryan Spiegel, Steve Coleman, Robert Faulkner, Bill Clelland, and Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah NE, 87110 or New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE, 87110.
