Don Wyly was born January 27, 1915 in Des Moines, New Mexico and died January 27, 1999 in Albuquerque. He attended elementary school in Raton, New Mexico and high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After completing a tour of duty with the Navy he settled in Woodland, California and worked in the grocery business. He was then employed by the Yolo County Sheriff's Office, where he served as Under Sheriff for many years. He also worked in Real Estate before entering the banking business where he was a Vice President of Guaranty Savings and Loan and served as the Woodland Branch Manager until his retirement. Mr. Wyly was committed to community service and served in the Woodland City Council including two terms as the Mayor of Woodland. He was also a manager of many local service organizations. He married Evalyn Golden in 1955. She preceded him in death in 1984. His hobby was golf and he pursued it with a passion. He was a member of the Yolo Fliers Club and served a term as its president. He married Jo Betty Bush in 1984. They lived for several years in Farmington, New Mexico and then moved to Albuquerque where he resided with his wife at La Vida Llena, a retirement community, until his death. He continued his community involvement by serving on the Board of Directors and a term as president of La Vida Llena. In addition to golf, Mr. Wyly enjoyed his family, travel and sports of all kinds. However, his greatest enjoyment may have been being around the people he worked and played golf with and the literally hundreds of friendships that he developed.
