Obituary for Jones

Edward"Speedy" Jones, age 86, passed away Sunday, April 4, 1999 in Mesa, Arizona after a brief illness. He moved to Mesa from Santa Fe in 1995 where he had lived since 1956. Speedy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1912. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1937 until 1945, serving in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany during WWII. He also served in the New Mexico Army National Guard as an aircraft mechanic. He was in the Army National Guard from 1950 until his retirement as a Sergeant Major from the 111th Artillery Brigade in 1972. He worked for the Research Division of the New Mexico Highway Department in the mid-1970's. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Angelyn in 1995. He is survived by his son, Clark Jones of Gilbert, AZ. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 8, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at McGee Memorial Chapel Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, 1:00 p.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, located at 1200 Old Pecos Trail. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
