Obituary for Trelease

Jean Ronayne Trelease died suddenly on Sunday, March 21, 1999 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born in Kansas City , Missouri in 1922, the daughter of Frances"Tokyo" Conkling and Frank Ronayne. Jean was educated in Kansas City. She graduated from Stephens College and The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, where she earned a BA degree in Chemistry and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1943 Jean married Richard M. Trelease, Jr., and accompanied him to Berkeley, California. She worked on the Manhattan Project at U.C. while her husband attended the Seminary. After California, Jean lived in Honolulu and Kailua, Hawaii. Later she lived in Wilmington, Delaware, Akron, Ohio and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She moved to Fort Worth in 1993. In each of these communities she was active in church, civic and social service projects. In Wilmington, Akron and Fort Worth she was a member of The Junior League. In Akron she co-founded a Planned Parenthood chapter and was its first board president. She was also board president of Planned Parenthood in Albuquerque. When the organization lost government funding, Jean and her board raised enough private sector money to maintain a strong and uninterrupted presence. In Fort Worth, Jean enjoyed life at Broadway Plaza, where she served as president of The Resident Council from 1996 until 1998. Jean Trelease is survived by sisters, Ann Neukomm and Frances"Lolly" Knight; by children, Richard M. Trelease, III, Christopher Walker Trelease and Phyllis Trelease Bess; grandchildren, Richard cotton, Elizabeth Cotton, Christopher Bess and Katy Bess; great grandsons, Nicholas and Austin Cotton, and cat, Victoria. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30,1999 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano NW, Albuquerque.
