Obituary for Hathorne

Robert Leroy Hathorne, 63, a native New Mexican-American and a war time veteran, died April 19, 1999 in Taos, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Samuel Hathorne. Born in Gallup, NM, May 1, 1936, he was educated in Albuquerque and El Paso and served in the US Army, the US Marine Corps and the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a volunteer fireman in several NM communities, the last in Moriarty. His granddaughter, Sophia Naomi; son, Benjamin Leroy; daughter, Lorinda Rachelle; his sister, Carol Kay Page; brothers, James Irwin and Merle Dean; and extended family survive him. He married Susan Collins in 1978 and Sylvia Jewett in 1988. He was known for his love of family and friends, a rural life style, cooking, fire fighting, animals, especially his dog, Spot, and helping others. A gathering in his memory will be held at the Moriarty Fire Station, Sunday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m. Cremation by Harris-Hanlon Mortuary, Moriarty, NM.
