Obituary for Rogers

Gerald Monty Rogers, age 63, a well known businessman and Co-Owner of the Rogers Mortuary and a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico since 1982 and former resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico following a sudden illness. He was born on June 9, 1935 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to the late Alfred E. Rogers and Gertrude M. Delong Rogers. He was united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 3, 1974 to Judy R. Clouthier. He retired in 1994 from the Public Service Company of New Mexico where he was employed as a Customer Service Representative in the Water Department for 14 years. He was presently employed by the Rogers Mortuary as Manager for the past four years. He was past president of Las Vegas Little League, past Trainer for the Robertson High School Athletics, Former Fire Chief of the City of Las Vegas Fire Department, Member of the Las Vegas B.P.O. Elks Lodge #408, the New Mexico Athletic Association, Active Volleyball Official, New Mexico Funeral Service Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He served in the United States Navy as a QM3 during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the China Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred E. Rogers in 1965 and Gertrude M. Rogers in 1974; brothers, Leroy C. Rogers in Feb. 14, 1991 and Alfred Rogers, Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Stella Clouthier. He is survived by his wife, Judy R. Rogers of the family home in Santa Fe, NM; sons, Mark E. Rogers and wife, Julie of Las Vegas, NM and Todd Rogers of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Jayd Adaire Rogers of Minnesota, Kristen Kelly Rogers and Karlee Rose Rogers both of Las Vegas, NM; sister, Arlene M. Stevens of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Billy G. Rogers of Las Vegas, NM; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred Romero and wife, Pauline of Wagon Mound, NM, Adolpho Clouthier and wife, Arabella of Canon City, Colorado, Sam Clouthier and wife, Pam of Wagon Mound, NM, Bill Broman and wife, Ann of Pueblo, Colorado, Vicente Maes and wife, Angelica of Alb., NM, Henry Clouthier of Pueblo, Colorado and Adrian Clouthier and Bobby Clouthier both of Wagon Mound, NM, Cleo Romo-Rogers of Las Vegas, NM and Betty Rogers of Lovington, NM, Kay Rogers of Roswell and Sandy and husband, Bill of Roswell, NM; special aunt and uncle, Julia Sena and husband, Elias of Santa Fe, NM; aunt, Ellen Drake of Alb., NM; so many special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers-staff members of the Rogers Mortuary. Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Deacon Leroy Martinez reciting the rosary. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday morning at 10:00 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Vincent G. DeFazio as celebrant and Rev. Mike Stahl of the First United Methodist Church assisting. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. He will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where the family and friends may call.
