Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday December 09, 1999

Carla Salinas Simmons, 38, died Tuesday morning, November 30, 1999. Carla attended Aztec Elementary, Jackson Middle, and Eldorado High Schools, graduating in 1979. She was a very beautiful woman who left a loving impression on the lives of everyone who knew her. Carla was a wonderful, caring mother and wife who dedicated her life and passion to her husband and two children. She was a best friend to many and abundantly shared her love with everyone who had the benefit of being in her presence. All of her grieving friends and family members are in shock-knowing of her death. Surely, Carla would have become a treasured friend to all persons, who would have known her. Carla's life touched so many others, so deeply, that our hearts are left wrenched with emptiness and pain, realizing the fragrance of her love must now be cherished only in memories. Yet we have all been touched by her loving soul and can feel her with us as we attempt to cope with her death. Like an angel, Carla has spoken with each of us, as if to let us know that she is in the loving presence of our Lord and God. Some of us have even been so lucky as to cry tears of joy and laughter, feeling in Carla's spirit, a little portion of God's unending glory. Carla still loves us all and she will be with each of us during our times of need. Now we have a special angel, our beloved Carlita, to help guide our lives through the many trials that deepen our characters. Carla is survived by her loving husband, Richard Simmons, and their two young children, Nicholas and Rachel; mother, Maria Carmen Salinas of New Mexico; father, Joseph Salinas and wife, Carol Salinas of New Mexico; siblings, from eldest to youngest, Carla's only brother, Joey Salinas, his two children, Joseph and Crystal, and his fiance, Mary of California; five sisters, Judy Salinas Gordon and husband, Jerry II, their three sons, Jerry III, Jackob, and Jack of California, Janna Salinas Cesinger and husband, Steve, and their two children, Monica and Hunter of California, Bernadett Salinas Bielaski and husband, Ed of New Mexico, and Carla's youngest sister, Jilianna and fiancee, Ben of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her sister, Monica Salinas, who passed away in 1968 of the Asian Flu at the age of five. All of Carla's surviving friends and family members request each of you come share your loving memories of Carla with us at the memorial services to be held Thursday, December 9, 1999, 4:00 p.m., at Church of Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Paul Baca officiating. A reception will follow immediately at the church. Any persons with strong feelings associated with Carla or the circumstances of her death are invited and encouraged to attend. Come share with us the deep grief of our beloved Carla's tragic death to help ease the emptiness and pain. Come share with us as we rejoice our beloved Carlita's glorious reunion with our Lord and God. As a lasting legacy to our beloved Carlita, learn to live in the loving presence of our Lord. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
