Basil U. Cooney, died on Tuesday, November 30, 1999, following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothea; his sons, Winston Cooney and wife, Ann of Sarasota, FL and J. Patrick Cooney of Highland Lakes, NJ; granddaughter, Paige Cooney of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Theda Gibbs of Salina, KS and LaDonna Cummings of Orlando, FL; and by many loving and caring nieces and nephews. Mr. Cooney was proud of his years of service in the Kansas National Guard and WWII as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. His 42-year career with the J.C. Penny Company earned great respect nationwide. The family is particularly grateful for the loving care of Dr. Richard Guidice and his staff of nurses. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, 4:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Road NE, with Dr. John H. Cushman officiating.
