Obituary for Davis

Our beloved Sister Gloria Ann Davis, of Ft. Defiance, AZ, has journeyed home to God on October 16, 2000. She was born September 5, 1933 into the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians for Red Running into Water (Tachii'nii) and (Kiyaa'aanii) the Towering House clan. She was a member of Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for 48 years. Sister Gloria graduated from the Gallup Cathedral High in May 1952. Sister entered into religious life with the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in August 1952 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. She made her first profession of vows on March 9, 1955. Sister obtained a college BA degree in education at Xavier University, New Orleans, LA in May 1959, and then made her final vows in August 1960. She obtained an MA degree at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois in May 1982. After her profession, Sister Gloria was missioned at several places over 48 years as a member of Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Missions include Church Point, LA; Corpus Christi, New Orleans; Tekakwitha, Houck, AR; Catholic Indian Center, Gallup, NM; Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Philadelphia, PA; St. Michaels, AZ; Rock Castle, VA; Our Lady of the Rosary, Pinon, AZ, Pala, CA; St. Catherine Indian School, Santa Fe, NM, and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Ft. Defiance, AZ. Sister Gloria is survived by her sisters, Eleanor M. Davis-Smith of Albuquerque, NM, Rose Bernadette Leyba of Albuquerque, NM, Loretta Davis-Chavez of Pinehaven, AZ, Patricia Ann Davis of Tucson, AZ, and Mae Begay of Bluewater, NM; brothers, Anselm G. Davis Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM, Ralph U. Davis of Albuquerque, NM, William P. Davis of Ft. Defiance, AZ, Robert M. Davis of Farmington, NM, Anselm K. Davis of Fruitland, NM; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews & relatives. Preceded in death by her parents, Anselm G. Davis, Sr. and Aileen (Ben) Davis; sister, Pearl Davis-Tome; brothers, Michael Davis and George Davis. Visitation will be held Friday October, 20, 2000, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the St. Michael School Chapel, preceding with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 415 E. Green Ave. Gallup, NM (505) 722-6644. Burial will be held at the St. Michael Cemetery, St. Michaels, AZ. Pallbearers: Anselm K.
