Obituary for Sucharda

Rudolph Sucharda, 86, died on September 30 in Pocatello, Idaho, following an extended illness. Mr. Sucharda was born June 12, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois, University of Chicago, and University of New Mexico, eventually earning two Masters degrees in music with his principal instrument, the violin. He met Mary Ruth Waters at the University of Illinois and married her on December 31, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. Rudy Sucharda was active in many areas of music education from grade school through high school such as band, choir, and particularly orchestra, where his greatest talents were evident. This music career took him from Illinois to New Mexico, California, and Wyoming. He was instrumental in developing the Youth Symphony in Albuquerque. Following his retirement in Laramie, Wyoming, he spent many hours teaching private lessons at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sucharda and Anna Bosek Sucharda; and his wife, Mary Ruth Sucharda. Survivors include his sister, Bertha Rubino of Chicago, IL; his daughter, Sharon Ann Self and her husband, Norman Self of Pocatello, ID; his son, Charles Joseph Sucharda and his wife, Thalia Blaylock Sucharda of Billings, MT; three grandchildren, Danika Self Salmans of Laramie, WY, Derek Edvard Sucharda of Billings, MT and Tania Self Nowell of Longmont, CO; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Farley Salmans and Abigail LouAnn Salmans, both of Laramie. Following cremation in Idaho, Mr. Sucharda's ashes will be returned to earth at Greenhill Cemetery in Laramie, Wyoming on October 21, 2000. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in the name of Rudolph Sucharda be made to the Symphony Association, c/o University of Wyoming Music Department, Laramie, Wyoming 82070 or any music group or organization that you may choose.
