Obituary for Sena

Ray Sena, Jr., age 83, a Foreign Service officer for 24 years before retiring in 1975 as counselor of embassy of Venezuela, died of congestive heart failure on January 16, 2000, at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He was currently living in Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Marquart Sena, in 1957; and by one grandchild. Mr. Sena, a native of Albuquerque, NM served in the Army in Europe during World War II. He received three Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was a 1946 graduate of Georgetown University's Foreign Service school. He worked at the Atomic Energy Commission in the late 1940's. In 1959, he received the State Department's Meritorious Service Award for his work at the American Embassy in Beirut a year earlier. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Washington. Mr. Sena is survived by his wife, Eleanor Welch Sena of Washington; four children from his first marriage: Stephen D. Sena and wife, Janet of Springfield, VA, Michael G. Sena and wife, Patricia of Jacksonville, FL, Patrick R. Sena and wife, Nola of San Jose, CA and Barbara Sena Hosenfeld and husband, Leo of Santa Fe, NM; brother, Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Gilbert E. Sena and wife, Reyes of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Alice Sena of Santa Fe, Mrs. Lucy Sena and Miss Mary Eileen Welch of Washington, DC. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 26 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
