Obituary for Giesler

John David Giesler, Colonel US Army Reserve (Retired), 64, a resident of Riverton, Wyoming for the past 12 years, died Saturday, September 2 2000. John was born May 20, 1936 in Laramie, Wyoming to Roland and Lula Giesler. He grew up in Laramie and graduated from Laramie High School in 1954. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and then attended the University of Wyoming. He graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1960. He was recalled to military duty in the Korean War in 1961. In 1962, he moved to Albuquerque to continue study at the University of New Mexico. While in Albuquerque he worked for UNM, BDM, and Holmes and Narver. As a reserve officer for 35 years he was at various times in command of all New Mexico units and some in Texas. He worked for a private contractor in Saudi Arabia just after the Gulf War as the head of the Chemical Sub-Section for the Safety Department of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. He was a parachute instructor and a member of the Special Forces (Green Beret). In recent years he had developed a love of genealogy and had done extensive research into his family history. Mr. Giesler is survived by his two sons and their wives, David and Lynette Giesler and Alan and Janell Giesler, all of Albuquerque; and one daughter and her husband, Anne and Arron Menefee of Los Alamos. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Giesler, Melissa Martin and Kaitlin Giesler of Albuquerque and Maia and Samuel Menefee of Los Alamos; and two sisters, Rosalie Flanagan of Riverton, WY; and his twin sister, Joan Marusich of Laramie, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James. Services will be held Wednesday, September 6, in Laramie, WY at the Montgomery Stryker Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Green Hill Cemetery.
