Obituary for Sanchez

Manuel T. Sanchez, 98, a resident of Albuquerque for 95 years, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Clara Martinez and husband, Richard, and Gloria Sena and husband, Ralph; son, Dr. Robert Sanchez and wife, Eleanor F. Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rick Martinez, Dan Martinez and wife, Renee, all of Albuquerque, Chuck Sena and wife, Sandy of Dallas, TX, Dr. Robert B. Sanchez and wife, Leanne, Linda Perea and husband, Michael, Dr. Gary Sanchez and wife, Julie, Dr. Greg Sanchez and wife, Kate, and Leslie Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Felicitas Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez owned Manuel's Food Market in Martineztown for over 75 years. He was an active member of the Democratic Party, serving as Bernalillo County Democratic Chairman, NM State License Distributor for Bernalillo County, and Democratic Ward Chairman for 72 years. Mr. Sanchez is acknowledged in the Library of Congress as the longest continually elected official in the United States. He was closely associated with, Governors Clyde Tingley, Tom Mabry and John Simms among others. He enjoyed horse racing, and sharing his humor with his friends. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 1900 Edith NE, with Deacon Bob Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Sanchez's grandsons. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Spann. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
