Obituary for Shoger

Margaret Elizabeth Shoger, age 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Village Manor Care Center. She was born January 8, 1911 at Waverly, KS, the daughter of James Price and Blanche Leone (Palmer) Waring. She grew up in Ottawa and attended Ottawa schools, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1929. She then completed Nurses' Training at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. On July 26, 1931, she was united in marriage to Milton"Dale" Shoger in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared over 54 years of married life together before the death of Mr. Shoger on September 13, 1985. She resided with her husband in the Kansas City, Kansas area and worked as a nurse for various physicians in the Kansas City area before her husband was transferred to Albuquerque in 1949. She worked as a nurse in the obstetric's department at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque for many years until her retirement. She moved back to the Ottawa area from Albuquerque in 1987. She was a current member of the First Christian Church in Ottawa and a former member of the First Christian Church in Albuquerque, where she had been a youth leader for many years. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; the General Edward Hand Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Happy Homemakers Club; the Ottawa Oasis Club; and the Just Friends Club. Surviving family include a brother-in-law, Herb Johnson of Ottawa; one nephew, Tom Johnson of Blue Springs, MO; cousins, Dick Shoger of Lyons, KS, Martha Pennington of Kansas City, MO, Dorothy and Ford Waring of Great Falls, MT and Cloyce Palmer of Fairfield, IA. Mrs. Shoger was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sisters, Mary K. Johnson on December 28, 1995; and an infant brother, Robert Leonard Waring. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2000, at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Fred Schaeffer officiating. Interment will follow in the Princeton Cemetery. Mrs. Shoger will lie in state after 9:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., Friday until the service hour.
