Obituary for O'brien

Col. (Ret.) John A. O'Brien, U.S. Army, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Betty R. O'Brien; and sister, Elizabeth Reilly of Spokane, WA. He is survived by his son, Drew O'Brien and wife, Linda of Soldotna, AK; daughter, Jill A. Bowen and husband, Jeff of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Erin, Molly, Colleen, Kevin, Megan, Patrick O'Brien, and Robbie B. Bowen; and sisters, Marie L. MacLeod of St. Louis, MO, and Frances A. Sullivan of Spokane, WA. Col. (Ret.) O'Brien graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired as a Colonel after 30 years of service. Col. (Ret.) O'Brien was a member of the Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, with Rev. Ramon Aragon, Celebrant. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. John was a fine, honest, generous, and kind-hearted soldier. We will miss our father, grandfather, and best friend.
