Obituary for Coffman

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday May 03, 2000

Esther Mae Coffman, 78, mother to Carol A. Bell, Linda J. Stephens, John A. Coffman and Judy L. Hauger passed from this world Saturday, April 29, 2000. She was cradled in the loving arms of her children as she left. Besides her children, who were her life, she is survived by her sons-in-law, G. Eric Bell and Michael Hauger of Albuquerque; her daughter-in-law, Terri Horton Coffman of Edgewood, NM; and grandchildren; Stephanie Spray, John Spray, Jennifer Stephens, Casey Coffman, Kimberly Coffman, and Alex Hauger; and by great-grandson, Elijah Spray; her sister, Doris Flowers of Oklahoma and dear friend, Diana Fein. Her husband, Abram L."Johnny", preceded her death in 1976. She and her husband packed their four children in their '48 Mercury and moved to Albuquerque from Long Beach, California in 1956. There was never any question that their children would have the education that was not afforded to them. Thus, they choose Albuquerque because of the University. She loved learning. She worked for many years at Sandia National Laboratories, retiring in 1988. She developed COPD shortly after retirement and spent the last years of her life battling the disease. She never complained. She moved to Sun Bridge Mission Manor in July where she was lovingly cared for. Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 2, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Sandia Hospice, 4725 Indian School Rd. NE or Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution NE. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
