Obituary for Gilbert

Dome A. Gilbert, 83, a resident of Las Vegas, NM, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000. She is survived by her sisters, Emma Armijo and Rose Dearholt of Albuquerque; brothers, Mayo Armijo and his wife, Corinne of Las Vegas, NM, and Solomon Armijo Jr. and his wife, Beverly of Yucaipa, CA; brother-in-law, Lewis A. Winston and Ozzie Molinar; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Dome was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Gilbert; and her parents, Solomon and Candelaria Armijo Ms. Gilbert earned her degree in Education from the University of New Mexico, where she majored in English. She taught in Magdalena, NM, was the Guadalupe County School Supervisor in Santa Rosa, NM, and served as an instructor of education at New Mexico Highlands University and a supervising teacher at Douglas Elementary. She spent many hours supporting the cause and leading the efforts of the League of Women Voters of which she was a charter member; she was also a charter member of the Association of University Women (AAUW) in Las Vegas. Ms. Gilbert was also an active member of the Arts Council, Library Association, Las Vegas Hospitality Auxiliary, and the St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary. She led the effort to support many local activities, but the one she was the most proud of was the Mardi Gras event which raised much needed money for the St. Anthony's Hospital in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlos Gilbert Elementary School, 300 Griffin Street, Santa Fe, NM, 87501. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 1, 2000, 9:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Las Vegas, NM, with Father George Salazar celebrant. Private disposition will take place in the Magdelena Cemetery, Magdelena, NM. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
