Obituary for Sager

John Barre Sager of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2000 in the home of his aunt in Albuquerque. He was born April 27, 1945 in Albuquerque to Geraldine and Harold Sager. He attended grade school in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, New York, California and New Jersey. After attending Franklin High School in New Jersey, John enlisted in the US Navy on April 14, 1964. He served in Great Lakes, Illinois, Port Hueneme, California, Adak, Alaska, and Chu Lai, Vietnam, where he received a Letter of Commendation for the work he performed during the deployment. In addition, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia. After transferring to the Naval Reserve, John was honorably discharged on April 13, 1970. John received an Associates of Arts degree in Technical Forestry from Lassen Community College in Susanville, California in 1970. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service in California, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. He last worked in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest as a log scaler and timber sale administrator. He was recognized in his home on January 28, 2000 for his work in administering the salvage timber sales from Routt divide blowdown. He will be missed by his friends in the Forest Service who admired him for his work ethics, humor, and dignity. As a member of the Elks Club he was involved in community service activities. He also loved his dogs, Mo and Duch. He will be missed by his family who have come to know him as a very unselfish and caring man. John was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lee Sager. He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Barre Sager of Albuquerque; his children, Charolette Lee Jones and Michael Shane Sager of Bakersfield, CA; and their mother, Dianne Nagle, also of Bakersfield; as well as his uncle, George T. Barre; and his aunts, Dorothy Kidd, Barbara Diewald, Leona Harmond and Vera Cato. A graveside service open to friends and family will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19 at the Fairview Memorial Park in the Veterans area at 700 Yale SE, in Albuquerque.
