Obituary for Martinez

Mr. Juan Martinez, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, changed his residence to Heaven on February 15, 2000. He was a native New Mexican, born on September 21, 1937 in Maes, NM. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla whom he married 38 years ago; two sons, Clarence (Eloisa) and Mervin (Karen); and four grandchildren, Juantia, Josiah, Mervin Jr. and Amanda. He is also survived by his mother, Lupita Martinez; four brothers, Cecilio (Bernice), Ben (Molly), Jose Jr. (Jennie) and Robert (Diane); three sisters, Aurora Armijo, Sofia (Richard), Mary Lou (Abram); brother in law, Robert (Dee); sisters-in-law, Laura Rivera and Flora Trujillo (Rumaldo), all three of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He served in the US Navy and moved to Albuquerque in 1959 where he worked with his brothers and they eventually opened their own business, Martinez Bros, Paint and Body Shop on South Coors. He was employed with Adelante Development Center when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in June 1998. He fought a good fight to remain with his family, but God had other plans for his future. He loved fishing and working in his yard and tending to his animals, but most of all he loved his grandchildren. He will live on in many hearts. Funeral Services for Mr. Martinez will be held on Saturday at the Ascension Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Pajarito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cecilio Martinez, Ben Martinez, Jose Martinez Jr., Robert Martinez, Mervin Martinez and Clarence Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Pacheco Jr. and Natalie Martinez. A Rosary for Mr. Martinez will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Ascension Church. Arrangements by Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
