Obituary for Swope

Ellen Pearl Swope, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2000 in Albuquerque. She was born in Johnson County, MO on November 27, 1911, the daughter of Earl and Effie Boosinger. She was married on December 1, 1933 to William O. Swope, who preceded her death in 1964. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Veda Black and Earline Lipton; brother, Robert Boosinger, all of Johnson County, MO; and one daughter, Helen Joann Swope of Lawton, OK and Albuquerque. Mrs. Swope is survived by four children, Carol Jean Ele, William E. Swope, both of Albuquerque, Jerry Swope and Terry Swope, both of Independence, MO. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Raymond Boosinger and sister, Dorthy Chappell of Johnson County, MO. She was a teacher in Johnson County, MO before moving to Independence, MO in 1957 to finish her teaching career at Ott, Randall and Benton Elementary Schools. Her education was received from Central Missouri State University from which she received a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters of Science in Education. She was a member of Carlisle Baptist Church in Independence, a member of Missouri State Teachers Association and AARP. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Swope was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and students with her patience, kindness and strength, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 20, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at the Northdale Baptist Church, 123 Osuna NW. Graveside services will take place in Warrensburg, MO on Saturday, April 22, 2000.
