Obituary for Holmberg

Robert E. Holmberg, 74, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away April 12, 2000. Mr. Holmberg was born on May 29, 1925 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to W.W. and Evelyn Avery Holmberg. Prior to, and after the war, he hauled feed and grains for the family business in Ordway, Colorado. Mr. Holmberg served in WWII in the Pacific Theater on the USS Henry T. Allen. He married the former Betty Lee Dennis of Olney Springs, Colorado on June 26, 1949. Mr. Holmberg had lived in Albuquerque since 1958. Mr. Holmberg spent 20 years with Brown Construction Company in Albuquerque as a bookkeeper and road superintendent. After that he was the purchasing agent for the New Mexico State Highway Department and before retiring he was mine manager and representative for Crist and Plateau Mining and Equipment. Mr. Holmberg retired in the late 80's to travel the country with his wife--visiting relatives and making new friends. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lee Holmberg of the home; son, Dennis M. Holmberg and his wife, Debbie of Hobbs; daughter, Nancee J. McClendon and her husband, Bud of Canyon, TX; three granddaughters, Shannon Green and Amanda Vanover of Amarillo, TX, and Kelley Holmberg of Hobbs; great-granddaughter, Adyson Vanover of Amarillo, TX; and sister, Laura Levi of Security, CO. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2000, at Brooks Chapel with Pastor Dale Travis, Minister of Family Life Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 South Jefferson, Amarillo, TX 79101. Brooks Funeral Home of Canyon, Texas in charge of arrangements.
