Obituary for Childress

Deacon Howard B. Childress was born January 19, 1911 in Marlin, Texas to the home of Joe and Mamie Ratliff Childress. He was raised in Marlin and later moved to Clovis, where he was a member of the First Street Church of God in Christ now the First Church of God in Christ, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He served many years faithfully on the Deacon's Board and as Sunday School Superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Childress of Albuquerque; step-children, Billy George Johnson, Jo Ella Redmon and Amanda Lewis, all of Albuquerque; a brother, John Childress of Waco, TX; sisters, Lorine Jackson of Albuquerque and Berniece Wallace of Fort Worth, TX; and by many loving step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Joy Light Church of God in Christ, 409 Santa Fe SE, with Bishop W.C. Green and Superintendent Claude Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Ervin, Harold Barefield, Randy Jackson, Duriel McDonnell, Cleveland Johnson and Marvin Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Daryl Harris, Ray Lathan, Tyrone Smith, Richard Redmon and Paul Archie. The family would like to thank you for your many prayers and kindness shown in deed and thought.
