Obituary for Tate

Cyril Burl Tate, 77, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2000, a resident of Mountainair, NM from 1922 to 1955 and of Moriarty from 1955 to 2000. Cyril was born July 16, 1922 to James and Emma (Perkins) Tate. He will be remembered as a WWII veteran, a farmer, Torrance County Treasurer, Moriarty Post Master, a member of the American Legion, active member of the Moriarty Church of the Nazarene, Moriarty Pintos scorekeeper, a carpenter, and poet. Cyril is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred (Hester) Tate, they were married in Clovis June 11, 1942. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ray Jones; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Liz Tate and Bert and Barbara Tate; three sisters, Opal Sherman, Thelma Akins, and Lela Gillmore; seven grandchildren, Jim, Vicki, Nicole, Jennifer and Cindy Tate, Brian Jones and Kerry Paiz; and three great-grandchildren, Leaya, Michael and Natalie Tate. Cyril will lie in state Saturday, March 25, 2000 at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 27, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at the Moriarty Church of the Nazarene, with Arnold Leidy and Steve Dolberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty. Pallbearers will be Brian Jones, Jim Tate, Louis Guenther, Ed Kline, Bob Smithart, Danny Paiz and Fred Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Rogers, Irby Rhodes, Melton Rushing and Terry Burnett. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moriarty Church of the Nazarene, The Gideon Bible International, P.O. Box 50126, Albuquerque, NM 87181, or the Moriarty Pinto Activity Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty.
