Obituary for Gardiner

James M."Big Mike" Gardiner, a resident of Albuquerque for over 35 years, passed away May 18, 2000. He is survived by his wife Becky Gardiner, daughter; Lisa Gardiner and fiancé, Jon Childs; son, Matt Gardiner and fiancé, Heather; and granddaughter, Michelle Gardiner, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Annette Hares of Tennessee and Donna Startz of Texas; brother, Tyson Gardiner of Texas; brother-in-law, Rob Mohr and wife, Denise of Albuquerque; and Uncle & Aunt, John and Georgia Cunico of Albuquerque. Big Mike met his wife at Madison Junior High where he was the captain of the football team and she was the head cheerleader. They remained together through high school at Sandia High and have been together ever since. Mike went on to play football at Eastern New Mexico on scholarship. Mike was a general contractor and built many homes and businesses in Albuquerque over the last 30 years. He was an instructor for the hunter education program for the state of New Mexico Game and Fish Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Matt, and was very proud of his daughter, Lisa. One of his greatest pleasures was playing with his granddaughter, Michelle. Viewing will be held Monday May 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo NE. Services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Good Shepherd, 7834 Tennyson NE, with cremation following.
