Obituary for Preston

Trudy B. Preston, 50, of Mountainair, NM, passed away Monday, May 15, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, after a long battle with Leukemia. Trudy was born November 20, 1949 in Roswell, to Grant G. and Lanora Gaston Barnes. She was raised on the family farm at East Grand Plains and moved to Ruidoso in 1962, where she attended the Ruidoso High School. She had been a resident of Mountainair for nine years, she and Larry owned and operated the Harris-Hanlon Mortuaries in Mountainair and Moriarty, along with their son, Grant. Trudy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mountainair and had served as a Funeral Service Intern until her health forced her to retire. She married Larry G. Preston in Ruidoso on October 28, 1966 and he survives her of the home; other survivors include three sons, Grant G. Preston and wife, Karen of Moriarty, Sidney G. Preston and wife, DeAnna of Roswell, and Jimmy G. Preston and wife, Cindy of Moriarty; one daughter, Lavinia G. Banda and husband, Meno of Albuquerque; one sister, Treva Perry and husband, Larry of Colorado Springs, CO; mother-in-law, Joyce Preston of Roswell; sister-in-law, Connie Jarvis and husband, Gene of Ruidoso; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and father-in-law. Trudy Preston will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Mountainair, with Reverends Jim Thompson, Randy Webb and Don Hayhurst officiating. Pallbearers will be Lupe Martinez, LeRoy Nix, Wayne Yeaw, Vernie Wells, Jim Edwards and Leland Riley. Trudy will lie in state at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair on Wednesday, May 17, 2000, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Thursday, May 18, 2000, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Following the services in Mountainair, she will be taken to Roswell, where she will lie in state at the Ballard Funeral Home, Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Graveside Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at South Park Cemetery in Roswell. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Arnold, Harold Hobson, Raymond Otero, Rex Harris, Harold Tucker, and Harry Rogers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stanley Union Church Building Fund or the First Baptist Church of Mountainair Building Fund. The family will greet friends and family at 416 So. Birch, in Roswell.
