Paul Vernon Jones passed away at home on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 from complications following a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Benita Mangini Jones; and their three children, Kimberly Jones Cilke of Phoenix, AZ, Stephen Tyler Jones of Boston, MA, and Eric Douglas Jones of Albuquerque; and his son-in-law, Edward Charles Cilke. Also surviving is an aunt, Ruth Harrison Johnston of Delray Beach, FL; and several cousins. Paul was born in Providence, RI, February 26, 1921 to Esther E. Harrison and Robert Jones. A resident of Albuquerque since 1972, Paul spent a large portion of his life in proud affiliation with the United States Air Force, serving as flight engineer on B-29 bombers for six years during World War II, and retiring from active duty on July 29, 1946. He served as a civilian Industrial Engineer for more than 40 years with the Department of the Air Force, first with the Contract Management Division, then with Phillips Lab, Kirtland AFB. He retired in October 1994. Paul graduated from Penn State University in 1950 and was an ardent supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions. A passionate sports enthusiast, he enjoyed swimming a mile a day for all of his adult life until his final illness. He was a loving, loyal husband and father, and his greatest pleasures came from supporting the interests and activities of his family. Always in our hearts, his strength, his dependability, his quiet will be sorely missed.
