Steve Griego Sr., age 70, of Grants, passed away Tuesday evening at the Veterans Medical Center in Albuquerque. Mr. Griego was born May 4, 1929 in Sena, New Mexico to Clemente and Josefita Griego. Mr. Griego was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, and was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Mr. Griego is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Griego of the family home; his two sons, John Steve and his wife, Dianne of Albuquerque and Daniel Griego of Grants; his four daughters, Mary Lou and her husband, Keith Gottlieb of Cubero, Kathleen Griego of San Francisco, CA, Diana and her husband, Leon Chavez of Spearfish, SD, and Rebecca Griego of Santa Fe; his two brothers, Benigno Griego of San Rafael and Alejo Griego of Grants; and his two sisters, Maggie Chavez of Grants and Josie and her husband, Onesimo Bustamante of Belen; his eight grandchildren, Kyle and Karl Gottlieb, Steven, Eric and Gregory Chavez and Jason, Joel and Joshua Griego; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Griego was preceded in death by his parents, Clemente and Josefita Griego; five brothers, Meliton, Jose, Adan Manuel and Luis Griego; and by an infant brother and sister. Visitation will be Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Grants Mortuary Chapel. The Rosary will be Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at St. Teresa Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Teresa Catholic Church with Fr. Godfrey Blank, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be at Grants Memorial Park with a Veterans Graveside service. Pallbearers will be nephews, Nestor Griego, Ben Griego Jr., Raymond Chavez, Alex Griego Jr., Michael Bustamante and Joe Griego. Honorary pallbearers will be all his other nephews and nieces, and the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 833 Gibson SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Grants Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
