Mr. Jacob J. Van Der Geest, a many year resident of Belen, died January 28, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alida Van Tol Van Der Geest of the home. He is also survived by children, Jackie Hix, Jake Van Der Geest, Connie Harnick, Joanne Van Der Geest, John Van Der Geest, Jim Van Der Geest, Judy Bottlinger and their spouses. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous family members in Holland. Mr. Van Der Geest was born in Holland in 1913. He and his family immigrated to New Mexico in 1956 and have lived in Belen since 1958. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Van Der Geest requests contributions be made to the New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1330 San Pedro NE, Suite 205, Albuquerque 87110. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening, January 30, 7:00 p.m., at Romero Funeral Home, with a viewing one hour prior to the Rosary. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 31, 2000, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, with Father Tom Greaney, OSM officiating.
