Obituary for Varela

Espiridion C. (Speedy) Varela, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 5, 2000. Mr. Varela is survived by his daughters, Vickie Dominguez and husband, Floyd and Tina Bachicha; four sons, Johnny Ortiz and wife, Jennie, Leo Ortiz, Richard Martinez and wife, Joanne and Cayentano Ortiz and wife, Pauline; daughter-in-law, Judy Varela; grandchildren, Janet Lopez and husband, Trinidad (Pancho), Rachel Varela and Gabriel Varela; great-granddaughter, Raylynn Aliyan Maestas and many other grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Varela; and a son, Andres Varela. Mr. Varela was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, and retired A.P.S. in 1970, after thirty-five years of service. A visitation will be Tuesday afternoon in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Dan Sanchez, Sr., officiating. Chapel doors will be open at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Pancho Lopez, Gabriel Varela, Larry Muniz, David Chavez, Floyd Dominguez and Pam Chavez.
