Obituary for Olson

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday June 25, 2000

Julia Marie Olson was born January 10, 1909 in St. Marys, Ohio, to August and Mary Mackenbach, the fourth of six children. Lillian Moul and Dr. Charles Mackenbach survive her. She graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and married Thomas Tschantz. Twelve years later, Tom passed away. Julia taught junior high social studies for the next 20 years while raising their daughter Susan. During that time she was tapped into Delta Kappa Gamma--a sorority for exceptional teachers. While visiting Sue in Santa Fe in 1965, she met Herbert Olson, they were happily married for 21 years during which they enjoyed extensive travel. Julia is survived by her daughter, Sue Satter of Albuquerque; Sue's children and their families, Tom and Gaylen Howard Satter and their daughter, Holly of Boulder, CO, John and Neva Satter and their sons, Levi and Christopher of Topock, AZ, and Karen and Roger Gose and their son, Matthew of Ft. Worth, TX. Also surviving are Herb's sons's family, Dale and Nancy Olson of Hayward, CA and their children, Janet Olson and husband, Ron Voss of Beaverton, OR, Jennifer and Kevin Cooper and sons, Timothy, Jeremy, and Jeffrey of Castro Valley, CA, and Kirsten and Jonathan Rosendall and children, Bruce, Jack and Megan of Castro Valley, CA. Julia had been a lifelong, faithful member of the Lutheran Church. She had been well-loved by her many nieces and nephews, and her myriad of friends over the past 91 years. She will be greatly missed by all. Julia Olson passed away on June 21, 2000 at Sunbridge Mission Manor Care Center where she had resided for the past 2 1/2 months. A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE (P.O. Box 25001), Albuquerque, NM 87125, on Saturday, July 1, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to your favorite charity.
