Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 08, 2000

Gilfred Allen Chavez, 46, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2000. His grandparents Epifanio and Frances Chavez, Nicholas Sanchez, and a sister, Priscilla Chavez preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving parents, Gilfred and Priscilla Chavez; his twin brother, Wilfred Allan Chavez and wife, Dianne; his sisters, Debbie Leach and husband, Jeff, Kathleen Richardson and husband, Bill, and Patricia Wagy; his nieces and nephews, Eric, Tisha, Matthew, and Molly; his friend, Rev. Will Steinsick; and many more family members and friends. Though we are profoundly sad at the loss of our brother, son, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend in a violent manner, we share a peace because we know that Gil knew the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 8:28 shares that"All things work together for the good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose." Gil's struggle with alcoholism is over and he is in his eternal home. What the enemy intends for evil, God uses for good. His truth always prevails. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Father Albert Gallegos officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wilfred A. Chavez, Kathleen Richardson, Patricia Wagy, Bill Richardson, Paul Padilla and Stan Padilla. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eric Chavez, Greg Padilla, and Kenny Chavez. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gilfred A. Chavez Ministry for the Homeless fund at University Heights United Methodist Church at 2210 Silver, SE Albuquerque, NM 87106 Attn: Will Steinsick. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home in Belen. 864-4448.
